SENIOR MENS UPDATE

Both our Senior Men’s teams have a busy fortnight ahead with two County League fixtures in the weeks ahead. The Division 1 Team makes the trek over Molls Gap to face Kenmare Shamrocks in Fr. Breen Park on Sunday April 24th with a 1pm throw-in while the Senior B Team play the same opposition in the same venue straight after at 3pm. The following weekend, the May Bank Holiday, An Ghaeltacht are the visitors to Direen in a Division 1 clash while the Senior Bs are also at home to Milltown Castlemaine B.
The East Kerry Superleague Final against our neighbours Dr Crokes is fixed for Sunday May 8th so it’s a busy few weeks ahead for the lads.

Juvenile Boys News

The first night of the highly entertaining, popular and energetic Go Games took place last Thursday April 14th and there was no shortage of action as our U11 Boys made the short trip back to Fossa. A thrilling hour of high octane football kept the watching parents enthused and thanks to them and host club Fossa for a very worthwhile exercise.
Our U 15 Green Team had a real ding dong battle with An Ghaeltacht back in a blustery Gallerus last Wednesday evening. Playing with the elements in our favour we raced into a five point halftime lead but the hosts using their local knowledge soon wiped out the deficit and then pushed five points clear themselves. A Legion penalty set up a grandstand finale as it brought the game level but a fine team move, flowing from one end of the field to the other saw Legion seal the win with a superb goal. Final Score Killarney Legion 4-9 An Ghaeltacht 2-12. Our next outing is at home to Keel/Listry on Wednesday April 20th, at 7pm, with a place in the County League Division 1 semi final almost within touching distance.

LADIES FOOTBALL NEWS

Our U12 Girls had a great win over Inbhear Sceine Gaels in the latest round of the South Kerry League. Short of a few panellists due to the Easter holidays they had to battle all the way and just had their noses in front at full time on a scoreline of 3-5 to 2-4. The final round sees them travel to Glenflesk this Wednesday April 20th with a 6.30 start.

The U14 girls got back to winning ways after last week’s loss to Moyvane when they accounted for Duagh in Direen on Saturday evening. After a good response to training during the week they bounced back with a fine win over Duagh and they sit up near the top of the table with a trip to Glenflesk in the last round in a couple of weeks.

The Minors bounced back from last week’s disappointment of losing to MKL Gaels by putting Na Gaeil to the sword in Killeen on Friday evening. This performance was a big step up on the previous game and the defining factor was a great team ethic throughout. The competition takes a break now until May 6th but the girls are well placed to make progress in the competition. They face Laune Rangers in the next round.

SARAH LEAHY

2022 keeps getting better for the University of Limerick student. She added two more gold medals to her collection winning both the 100m and 2000m finals, setting new UL records in the process. The UL Team also took bronze in the 4 x 100m relay, which means parents Mike and Marie will be looking to add an extension to the home to house all Sarah’s accolades.

PITCH MAINTENANCE

The work has commenced on Pitch 2 and from April 20th it will be closed for approximately three weeks to give it a breather after a very busy start to the year. It is planned to be reopened again by Friday May 13th.
