U14s capture East Kerry Div 2 crown

14 EAST KERRY FINAL

Killarney Legion 5-20 Kilcummin 5-10
These two sides served up as entertaining a game as one could have wished for with the Legion ultimately getting the better of a determined Kilcummin squad to take the title.A flying start which saw goals from Connor Gammel,Matthew Horgan, and Eoghan Crowley gave the green and whites a solid platform and it seemed that they would swamp the opposition but Kilcummin to their credit rallied well and duly replied with 2-4 to leave the score at the break Killarney Legion 4-9 Kilcummin 2-6.Having upped their game Kilcummin came out in determined fashion and hit some early points but another Sam Benson goal bolstered the Legion and they gradually pulled away with points from Gammell,Caelan Sheahan,Crowley and Matthew Horgan.A fine performance by a squad that augurs well for the future with the players showing a great command of the basic skills -undoubtedly a result of the Saturday Academy.Well done to one and all.
KEEPING NIALL IN MIND
Prayers and well wishes all the way from Cross Mountain in Medjugorie. A group led by Fr Jim & Joanne Pierce who packed the Legion Jerseys, and led the prayers at the top of Cross Mountain for Niall Mac and his family who are steeped deep in the Legion. Niall Mac is a very talented sharpshooter, one of our outstanding up and coming players with the U-16’s. Joanne brought the jerseys to Medjugorie to let Niall,Sheila,Daithi Jane and Ellen know they are in our prayers and thoughts.Well done to Fr.Jim Lenihan,Joanne Pierce,Mary O Donoghue,Joanne Slattery,Marion Lucey,Michael O Donoghue,Robert Murphy,James Murphy and Mark Moriarty.
SUMMER CAMP
Another successful summer camp with big numbers and the very welcome coaching input by the senior players. This has proven to be a rewarding and worthwhile excercise for both the boys and girls who attended and also for the seniors who gave willingly of their time,a nice connection between the present and future.Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sé.
KERRY MINORS
Congratulations to Peter Keane and his squad who kept the Kerry flag in Croke Park when they overcame adversity to qualify for the final once more.Typical of Peters sides organised, composed and talented they played a lovely brand of football to get over the tough challenge laid down by Monaghan.Great performance by our own Darragh Lyne – who but for a tremendous save by the goalkeeper would have had a contender for one of the goals of the season.Well done also to Kieran O Donoghue who also caught the eye on his introduction.
