Killarney Legion 4-13 Scartaglin 2-8
Our U16 girls travelled to Cordal pitch to commence their Division 2 League in an away game against Scartaglen. Previous meetings of these teams had always been close and playing away put the girls up against it. They responded to the challenge with admirable ability and determination getting the upper hand early in the first half with their accuracy telling when taking their opportunities well. A robust battle on the pitch saw our girls making the most of their chances to build up a good lead at half time with the net rattling as well as a number of good points from play .
The second half commenced well for our girls again as they mounted a number of attacks and maintained a strong defence .While Scartaglen’s accuracy let them down in the first half they persevered into the second half and in the fourth quarter they started a fightback adding two goals and a number of points to their tally but our girls – although tiring, held their ground to the final whistle for a well deserved win.
The next outing for the girls will be a home game v Laune Rangers.
Our u14 girls got their East Kerry campaign off to an excellent start away to Firies on Sunday evening. In a tightly contested first half both teams were trading score for score right up to half time when Firies scored a penalty to go 2 points up only for Legion to score a beautiful team goal a minute later to go in 1 point up at half time 2-5 to 1-7. Legion asserted themselves very strongly at the start of the second half and through superb anticipation, tackling, passing and support play, scored a number of goals and points to put the result beyond doubt. All in all, an excellent team display by the girls showing great team spirit and determination and ran out deserving winners on a score line of 7-10 to 3-8.
