GOLF CLASSIC

Sean Murphy and his team are delighted to announce that our Annual Golf Classic is back with a bang with Friday May 5thpencilled in as the date. What an opportunity to play on one of Ireland’s most picturesque courses, the famed but equally fair O’Mahony’s Point where you will still enjoy the track regardless of your skill level. We are committed to providing our members and the broader Killarney community with the best facilities possible to enhance their health and wellbeing. Every week, hundreds of families use the facilities in the Club and over the past few years, these facilities have been upgraded substantially including excellent floodlighting, upgrading and resurfacing of our 2 main pitches and installation of a 3rd smaller training pitch as well as upgrading of gym facilities to incorporate all ages and sections of the Club. To continue to be able to fund this we are running our Classic and if you would look to support us now is your chance. A team of three is 300 Euro and a tee box can be sponsored for 100 Euro.
We are delighted also to welcome the GlenEagle Hotel and Apartments as the main sponsor of our Classic and we are very grateful to Patrick and the O Donoghue Family for their marvellous support.

SENIOR MEN UPDATE

The Senior Men travel to Rathbeg this Friday April 14th for Round 3 of the County League. A tough game is in the offing against the newly crowned All Ireland Intermediate Champions while the following weekend we have a home game against Dr Crokes.
The Senior B Team played out an entertaining draw with neighbours Fossa on a dampish Easter Sunday afternoon. Fossa started the brighter and despite two points from the Moriartys, Thomas and Gavin, the home side led 0-5 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter. Six points were shared equally between the sides in the next phase of play with the Moriarty brothers again hitting the target along with Tadhg Doolan to make it 0-8 to 0-5. But Legion got a strong grip on proceedings then with Alan Moriarty joining the clan on the scoresheet alongside Jamie Alade, Stephen Flattery and Tadhg Doolan again. An early second half point from Thomas completed the turnaround as Legion now led 0-11 to 0-8. But Fossa now had the aid of a strong breeze and they finished the game stronger. In the end it was a stalemate at 0-13 a piece with one point from Gavin Moriarty being particularly impressive. They now face Kilcummin in Round 4 on the weekend of April 22nd/23rd.
Team Rob Osborne, Ian Prendergast, Sean McCarthy, Callum O Donoghue, Noel Moynihan, Dion O Neill, Alan Moriarty(0-1), Jamie Alade(0-1), Shaun Keane, Tom Cronin, Stephen Flattery(0-1), Cian McCann, Gavin Moriarty(0-3), Tadhg Doolan(0-2), Thomas Moriarty(0-5). Our Under 11 Boys kicked off their season with our Green and White teams playing against Rathmore in Direen last Thursday evening . Donal O Donoghue prepared the fields, and our two club referees John Keane and Oisin Fleming took charge of both games .Two evenly matched sides produced some excellent football, and both sides were a credit to their clubs in their attitude and skills that were on show .Thanks to Rathmore for travelling, and we wish you well in the remaining games . Well done too to our Legion boys , all 26 that gave it their all in the evening . Next up is a trip to John Mitchels for our first away day fixture.
The U15 Boys are operating in Division 1 of the County League this year and they welcomed Laune Rangers to Direen in the past week. In a rip roaring game the sides finished level at the end of 60 minutes, Fielding a young side there are twelve players  eligible again next year. The game was well refereed by Tom Walsh and thanks to Laune Rangers for a great game under the Direen lights. Final score Killarney Legion 1-10 Laune Rangers 1-10. Na Gaeil are next on the agenda with that game pencilled in for the week beginning April 10th with Dr Crokes and John Mitchels also in the group.

MAURA MCCARTHY

Since setting up the Club Shop in 2008, Maura McCarthy has been ever present in her role as a shopkeeper. But more than that, she has been the friendly face for loads of our Academy kids and parents who continue to progress through our club. Ever dependable, flexible, and helpful, we wish Maura well on her “retirement” from the Club Shop. Academy supervisor Liam O Toole and Club Chairman David Randles made a special presentation to Maura to mark her contribution to the club. So we all say thank you, Maura.
