Club Notes 9th October 2022

Club Lotto

Our latest Lotto winner is Gillian O Sullivan from Muckross. Gillian is an avid player of our Lotto and is a most deserving winner. Her combination of numbers 1, 3, 11, 16 scooped the prize and we hope she spends the money wisely.

SENIOR MENS UPDATE

With the County Senior Football Championship now at the semi final stage the picture becomes clearer as to when our Intermediate Club Championship semi final against An Ghaeltacht can be played. Were East Kerry to be successful in reaching the County Final our last four date with the West Kerry outfit will be played on the weekend of November 5th/6th. If East Kerry fail to reach the final we will be in action on the October Bank Holiday weekend. Of course with seven in the East Kerry panel, namely Brian Kelly, Cian Gammell, Jonathan Lyne, Darragh Lyne, James O Donoghue, Padraig Lucey and Ryan O Grady, we wish them the best of luck in their semi final against Dingle. Throw-in for that game this Sunday October 16th is 2.30pm in Austin Stack Park.
Our Senior panel have been busy preparing themselves in the meantime playing challenge games and some lining out in the East Kerry Junior Championship, the O Sullivan Cup. The semi final of that competition has been fixed for Sunday 16th also ,in Fossa, with a 11.30am throw-in. Any player who didn’t start a game in this year’s Intermediate Championship is eligible to play whilst you can also nominate five who have started to line out also. The panel and management will be keen to add to the two previous triumphs, 1980 and 2014 , so all support will be welcomed for the clash against neighbours Fossa.

SENIOR LADIES

With Firies qualifying for the Munster Junior Championship semi final it shows well for our Senior Ladies. Competing in the Junior A Championship this year one of the most entertaining games of the year was that exciting draw played out against Firies in Direen last month. It proved that the Ladies are too far away in that regard and hopefully they will push on in the years ahead. Bainisteoir John McCarthy has hung up his bib and must be widely thanked and acknowledged for the time and effort he put into the team. In his first year in charge they gained promotion in the Donal Curtin Cup and of course this year they were extremely competitive in the Junior A Championship . John will also be the first to thank his management team of Jason Stack, Shaun O Connor, Ted Healy, Mike Doody and Desiree Crowley who are and continue to be great servants to Ladies Football in the club. Thanks to John and his team, no doubt they all will be back involved in one way or another.

LADIES UPDATE

Our U12 Girls travelled to Scartaglin to play the East Kerry Div 2 Final. The hosts were the opponents and it was them who came out on top . With the majority of the panel underage again next year it is hoped that the younger girls will have learned a lot and that experience will stand to them. Best of luck to the girls going up to the U14 next year and thanks to the East Kerry Board for a great competition.
Both our U16 and Minor teams have qualified for their respective East Kerry finals with fixture details still to be confirmed at the time of writing. The U16s had a great win over Laune Rangers last week to make the last two while the Minor girls are facing MKL Gaels with that game likely to be going ahead on this Friday October 14th. Keep an eye on our Social media for confirmation.

MINOR BOYS

The East Kerry Minor Championship goes ahead this Saturday October 15th with a home game for our lads against Fossa. Throw in is at 4pm in Direen and all support is appreciated.

MOTHERS AND OTHERS

Our Mothers and Others football department are a busy bunch and at the Saturday Morning Academy they held a cake sale. There was a wonderful spread and thanks to everyone who supported the venture. Hopefully you didn’t over indulge on the treats. Their training continues every Wednesday in Direen from 8-9pm . All are welcome!!
