The club is hosting a special registration night on Monday, March 7th from 7.30pm to 9pm upstairs in Murphy’s Bar. The plan is to register as many existing members as possible on the night and also to provide a point of contact for potential new members who might want to join. We hope to see you all there.
The Academy is re-opening on Saturday, March 5th. If you’d like to register a child you can do so at the pitch this Saturday and every Saturday morning in the month of March.
SUPER LEAGUE: LEGION 3-8 CURROW 1-5
Our seniors got their season off to a solid start with a good
performance at home to Currow on Sunday morning
Legion edged the early exchanges and Tom Moriarty spurned a goal chance before Conor Culloty popped over the opener following a great run by Chris Davies. Currow equalised and then quickly took the lead with a goal from the penalty spot, but our lads responded well and racked up three unanswered points through Tom Moriarty, Conor Keane and Conor Culloty. Currow led by a point going into the closing stages of the first period but two goals from pacey corner forward Tom Moriarty just before the break turned the game on its head. The impressive Shaun Keane burst forward from midfield and was through on goal when he unselfishly squared to his unmarked teammate to palm the ball into the empty net. Within a couple of minutes Legion had another, this time Conor Keane fired across the face of the goal for Moriarty to tap home. Legion led 2-4 to 1-3 at the break.
The home team struck first in the second half when Tom Moriarty gathered the ball on the endline and slalomed his way goalwards before applying a clinical finish to complete his hat-trick and give Legion a seven point advantage. Shortly afterwards, substitute Derek Twomey increased the gap to eight and Currow faced a real uphill battle to get back into the game.
A point from Scott O’Mahony and two more from Twomey rounded off the scoring for Legion and, in the dying moments, Currow were awarded a second penalty. David Gleeson capped a strong performance by comfortably saving the strike and Legion emerged comfortable winners.
Legion scorers: Tom Moriarty (3-1), Derek Twomey (0-3), Conor Culloty (0-2), Conor Keane (0-1), Scott O’Mahony (0-1).
