Top Stars Honoured

Many thanks to all those who helped, attended and supported our St.Patricks Day parade entry.A great family day out the club has had a fine record in recent years and thanks mainly to the efforts of Stella Moloney and Tommy Galvin and their dedicated crew they weren’t found wanting once again.
Our annual awards night has become a most pleasant event when the club recognises those that have served above and beyond. This year we were delighted to honour Seanie Culloty as club person of the year and indeed his contribution from his playing days to his leadership of our Saturday morning academy has been a vital part of the growth and development of our juvenile section.Young player of the year goes to Cian Gammell who had such a brilliant year and took winners medals with the Sem and a stellar showing with the All Ireland winning Kerry minors.Junior player award deservedly went to the tireless Aiden Slattery while senior player went to Shaun Keane who has been without doubt one of our most consistant and dedicated performers. The ladies were represented on the night by Kiah Doona  who has been an outstanding player right from her early juvenile days.A special award went to our St.Patricks Day group who have been innovative, entertaining and so hard working for the past number of years.Winners medals were also presented to the senior Ladies and the senior men who went up to Div.1 as unbeaten champions. All well deserved for their efforts. It was an honour and privilege as usual for us to have Joanne O Riordan amongst us and we greatly value her as a lifelong member of the Legion Club. Many thanks to the Plaza Hotel for their facilities.
The senior ladies turned in what can only be described as a Lazarus type performance when they trailed Laune Rangers by 10 halftime but were denied by a last kick of the game point by the Rangers to share the points.A serious second half display saw them whittle the big gap gradually to lead by the minimum and while the win would have been very welcome after such an effort one couldn’t begrudge the Laune Rangers a share of the spoils.
Killarney Legion 1-19 Rathmore 5-9
When you register 1-19 one would expect to win most games but when this is balanced with the concession of 5 goals then victory becomes more problematic. So it proved as these two sides played out a highly entertaining high scoring game in difficult conditions. The pattern was set in the first half with the Legion hitting 11pts.but Rathmore netting twice to leave the halftime score 2-5 to 11pts.The second half again showed the homeside keeping the scoreboard ticking over but Rathmore punishing defensive slip ups with a further 3 goals.Conor Keane who was lively throughout got the Legion’s goal from the penalty spot but Rathmore were to run out winners by a point leaving both sides taking both positives and negatives from their respective performances.
