U16 girls triumphant as Senior men get ready for Rock

Kenmare Shamrocks 1-15 Killarney Legion 2-13

On a near perfect surface in Fr.Breen Park with a slight breeze blowing from the town side the Legion seniors came away with a hard fought 1pt.win.Slow to start they trailed by 4 after 10mins.as they struggled to get to the pace of the game, gradually the defence settled and the forwards were supplied with better ball.Much the same as the  drawn game neither side could make a decisive break and the sides traded point for point to leave them level at 7 apiece at the short whistle. While the Legion had the first point of the second period it was Kenmare who hit the net first to boost their chances but it shook the green and whites into action which saw Rob Leen find Jamie O Sullivan to gather one handed turning in the process and flash the ball to the net.The same player was becoming more influential and he struck for a second after good work by Sean McCarthy.Kenmare kept coming and whittled away at the deficit but the Legion driven on by the inspirational James O Donoghue, who bagged 9pts,and Billy McGuire who worked tirelessly created a neat point well taken by the steadily improving Finbar Murphy to push his side ahead as the finish line neared. Both sides showed admirable levels of fitness and Denis Sheahan epitomised this when he worked hard to turn over two Kenmare possessions into injury time.A much higher press on the Kenmare kickout by the Legion forwards certainly made a difference and overall a tough test successfully overcome and some valuable lessons learnt.Unfortunately Darragh O Doherty suffered an ankle injury during the game which saw him limp out of the action in some discomfort, hopefully he won’t be out of commission for too long.

Scorers – Jamie O Sullivan 2gls,Jas O Donoghue 9 pts,(5f),Billy McGuire,2pts.Conor Keane 1pt,Finbar Murphy 1pt.

Ardfert 2-14 Killarney Legion 5-13

The u14’s continued to show their admirable defiant streak as they travelled to North Kerry and after a pulsating encounter(they don’t do any other kind really!)qualified for the final against Na Gaeil. It took a real team performance to get the better of a tough Ardfert side but they stuck to their guns and deservedly won the day.

Killarney Legion 1-15 Na Gaeil 0-5

When these two sides met in the league proper there were just a few points between them in the Legion’s favour so this was expected to be another close encounter. However the u16 girls left no margin for error as they turned in a performance worthy of winning any final to deservedly win with a healthy buffer between the two.Alas the occasion was clouded slightly as Clodagh Sheehan had the misfortune to break two fingers during the game – we wish her all the very best in her recovery.Captain Zena Shine spoke elegantly after the game and acknowledged the fine efforts of all involved. We congratulate all involved on a great season.

Another trophy for the ebullient and dynamic Peter Keane who certainly has the winning touch. The club was well represented by Darren Looney,Michaél Devlin and Barry Slattery, well done lads.
