Our 16 boys defeated a gallant Gneeveguila by 2-14 to 0-08 on Sunday in the East Kerry Division 1 championship.  The inclement weather of late had little effect on the pitch which was in excellent condition. Both sides were missing several key players but despite this the teams served up a very entertaining match. Legion got off to the better start. Tadhg Doolan was in impressive form up front, winning plenty of ball while Niall McGillicuddy’s free taking was as reliable as ever and he converted several difficult frees. Darragh Lyne and Evan Smith had a great battle in midfield with Darragh kicking a lovely point from distance. Our defense were in a mean mood once again and this was our 3rd game in a row not to conede a goal. Kieran O’Donoghue and Adam Kissane had terrific games in the backs while Peter O’Sullivan’s powerful running saw him score 3 super points from wingback.
Halftime: 0-08 to 0-02.
Gneeveguila shot out of the blocks in the second half, reducing the score to 0-09 to 0-05. This seemed to be the wake up call that we needed. Our lads upped the ante and were awarded a penalty after Tadhg Doolan was fouled by the keeper. Ryan O’Grady made no mistake and slotted home the ball. William Shine made a big impact when he was introduced while his under 14 teammate, Darragh Fleming made no mistake when he found himself unmarked at the back post, tapping in a perfectly floated cross. It was a good all round team performance with 7 different players getting on the scoresheet. The club would like to wish the young Gneeveguila player who got injured today a speedy recovery.
Final score: Legion 2-14 Gneeveguila 0-08.
We now meet Rathmore in the final.
