SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE

Our two Senior teams were in action this past week. The Senior B team were defeated by Beaufort on Thursday night in Direen on a 3-9 to 0-11 scoreline but what was fantastic to see was the large turnout of players . The team management of Donal O Donoghue, Mike Piggott, Conor McNiece, Mark O Leary, Michael Bernard O’Donoghue and player Sean McCarthy must be complimented for the work and effort they put in assembling the panel who have been busy training away in the last six weeks.

The Division 1 team were in Ballymac for the opening round . Seven different players scored in the first half as the lads led 1-11 to 0-1 having played with the aid of a stiff breeze. ST PATRICKS DAY

The social committee of David Randles, Sharon O Grady , Orla Culloty, Timmy O Donoghue , Martina O Sullivan, Patricia Boland and Claire Duke were hard at work with the last number of weeks in preparation for our annual St Patricks day parade. In the parade we highlighted the activities that Killarney has to offer to people. Martina put her creative twist on decorating the pick up that was so kindly given and driven on the day by Timmy O Donoghue. We had a boat that was on the back of the pick up that was full of u10 girls the boat was guided by our boatman Gerry Adams on the day. Our parade was led by our St. Patrick on the day (Ted Healy) while  Claire put her craft to work to dress him for the day. Maria O Sullivan was there on the day to capture some brilliant photos. Well done to all the girls, boys and their families who participated on the day to show off our club colours

U17 COUNTY LEAGUE

Our U17 Boys concluded the Division 1 County League with a keenly contested game with Kenmare Shamrocks. Legion found themselves with a depleted squad due to injuries and commitments to other sports.
A number of under 15 stepped in and acquitted themselves very well against an impressive Kenmare side. The first half was point for point and the score stood at 06-04 to Kenmare approaching half time. However a late burst from Kenmare saw them finish the half 2-6 to 0-5 in front. The Legion lads upped their game in the second and were forced to carry the ball into the strong wind. A feature of the second half was the powerful running by the legion defense where Luke Courtney, David O’Brien, John o’Grady, Bryan Walsh and Cillian Murphy excelled. Legion closed the gap to 3 points with 10 mins remaining . However Kenmare found the necessary scores to close the game out on a final score of Kenmare Shamrocks 2-13 Killarney Legion 0-11. A feature of the game was an outstanding second half performance from Oisin Fleming.
Team .Joshua Alade, Cian Scannell, John O’grady, David O’Brien, Luke Courtney, Cillian Murphy, Adam O’Neill, Bryan Walsh, Ronan Fahy, Jack McCrohan(Capt),Liam Cronin, Jason O’Sullivan, Eanna Kearney,Oisin Fleming, Kevin Looney
Subs Bryan O’Connor, Finán Blackwell.

LADIES UPDATE

The u14 girls had their first outing of the year as they kicked off their county league campaign today. Beaufort were the visitors to Direen where the rain thankfully held off for the game. Both teams took some time to adapt to the heavy underfoot conditions and the hosts were the first to raise a white flag. Beaufort opened their account shortly after. Two well matched teams were competing at both ends of the field. The Legion girls were first to register a goal and this 3 pointer was the difference between the sides at the break. The second half saw both sides exchange scores and dispaly some excellent defensive skills in the difficult conditions. As the game entered the final quarter, the home side found their purple patch. A series of goals in quick succession was enough to close out the game for the girls in green and white. Well done to all the girls who served up an entertaining contest on a heavy sod, never an easy task. Thanks to Beaufort for a sporting game and the referee for officiating.
Final score ..Killarney Legion ‘Green’ 4-06
Beaufort 0-04
