SENIOR MENS UPDATE

The Senior Men made it two from two in the County League with a hard earned win over Austin Stacks. A stiff breeze backing the Tralee side saw them lead 0-9 to 0-4 at half time but an early Darragh Lyne goal in the second half laid the foundations for the 1-10 to 0-12 win.
Team..Brian Kelly, Podge O’Connor, Danny Sheahan, Rob Leen, Peter O Sullivan, Darragh O Doherty, Kieran O Donoghue, Darragh Lyne(1-1), Cian Gammell, Eoghan O Sullivan, Jonathan Lyne, Finbarr Murphy(0-3), Ryan O Grady(0-1), James O Donoghue(0-4), Peter McCarthy(0-1).
Subs used.. Luke O Donoghue, Jamie O Sullivan, Cathal Sheahan, Denis Sheahan.
The Senior B Team welcomed Tuosist to Direen on Sunday afternoon. With a good response to training a strong panel was available to the management team and they made full use of it fielding  different teams in each half with Rob Osborne in goals and Sean McCarthy  the only players to play the full game. After going in at half time 1-6 to 0-2 down a strong second half performance secured a draw, 0-12 to 1-9. It’s great to see such a good turnout of players over the weekend.
Panel..Rob Osborne, Daniel Carroll, Sean McCarthy, Kieran Pierce, Dion O Neill, Callum O Grady, Callum O Donoghue, Alan Moriarty, Matthew Fogarty, Paul Moriarty, Senan O Leary, Donncha Warren, Billy McGuire(0-1), Cian Sheahan, Bryan Griffin, Alex O Callaghan, Cian McCann(0-1), Gavin Moriarty(0-1), Tom Cronin, Sam Benson(0-2), Stephen Flattery, Jack O Neill(0-1), Thomas Moriarty(0-5), Jamie Alade(0-1), Roman Carton, Ian Prendergast, Jack Enright.

SENIOR LADIES

Our Senior Ladies team commenced their Donal Curtin Div 2 campaign at home to MKL Gaels  in Direen. Short of a number of first team regulars this year, it was always going to be a difficult start. But they started the game well and went into an early lead 1-00 to 0-01 after 15 mins with full forward Eve Coffey finding the net. MKL came back and got a goal of their own plus a couple of points. Unfortunately  Ciara Randles picked up what looked like a hamstring injury and this was another blow to the team. A couple of positional changes at half time definitely brought an improvement but scores proved difficult to come by. Eve Coffey once again finished to the net on either side of MKL points to narrow the deficit to just 2 points but the visitors kept the scoreboard ticking over with some well worked points to run out winners on a final scoreline of MKL 2-07 Legion 2-2.

Team..1. Deirdre Lyne, 2. Ciara Doolan, 3. Isabelle Corridan, 4. Abby Cronin, 5. Aisling Stack, 6. Kate McCarthy, 7. Zena Shine, 8. Ellen Coffey, 9. Tara Murphy, 10. Isabelle Murphy, 11. Ciara Randles, 12. Lauren Horgan, 13. Ann Marie O Sullivan, 14. Eve Coffey, 15. Caelyn O Grady
Subs: Amy Walshe, Aoife Healy, Meabh Healy, Becci Fleming, Eabha Stack.

JUVENILE BOYS UPDATE

Our U11 Boys took to the field for their first challenge game of the season when they faced Kenmare in Direen this evening. Both clubs fielded two teams and played some brilliant football .A huge thank you to our two young referees, Oisin Fleming and John Keane .We wish our U11s the best of luck for the coming season as they begin their league campaign on Thursday next against Rathmore. Thanks very much to Kenmare for travelling up, and hopefully, we can make the return journey at some stage this year.
Our U13 Boys travelled to the John Mitchels complex for their first games in the County league. The first team displayed some great teamwork in getting pivotal scores and ran out good winners. The Division 9 team had to combat a strong wind in the first half and despite rallying hard in the second half they couldn’t reel in the home team. Thanks as always to the famed Tralee club for the usual welcome. Results.. Killarney Legion 5-20 John Mitchels 2-10, Killarney Legion 1-9, John Mitchels 4-4.
This Sunday past our U13 Boys welcomed Kilcummin to Direen for the next round. The Green team lost out in a close run game by 4-14 to 5-7 while the white team clicked nicely to run out comfortable winners. The lads head to Na Gaeil on Thursday April 13th in their third outing of the league. Well done also to Kieran Moloney, representing Killarney Valley AC, who won a bronze medal in the Shot Putt at the National Indoor Championships in Athlone.

LADIES UPDATE

The U14 Girls( Division 4 team) have commenced their County League programme. Their opening fixture was on Sunday March 19th and they overcame Beaufort  while the second round was played on Friday March 24th in Direen against Kilcummin. The visitors came out on top on this occasion. Results.. Killarney Legion 4-6 Beaufort 0-4, Killarney Legion 4-3 Kilcummin 4-7 .
With two teams at this age group the second team had a day trip to Cahirciveen and they competed well with the home side. They will face Rathmore during the week as well. With good numbers at this age group there is great work being done by Kieran O Shea, Timmie Joe Fleming, Ian Bowler, Donal O Leary, Shane McSweeney and Sharon O Shea.
The U16 team start their campaign this week with a home game against John Mitchels. We’ll have news on that game in next week’s notes.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS GAME

With Kerry in Munster Championship duty on Saturday April 22nd against either Waterford( to be played in Dungarvan) or Tipperary ( to be played in Fitzgerald Stadium) the hugely popular Primary schools games will also be hosted at half time in the game. And it’s great to see the Club well represented. Aitana Bowler (Lissivigeen NS) and Sophie O Shea( Loughquittane NS) will be on the girls team while Sean Lyne( Loreto NS) and Conor Moynihan( Loughquittane NS) will be on the boys selection. We will all be hoping Tipperary come out on top in their clash against the Deise men, if only to make it extra special for our four fine players to be lining out in the home of Kerry Football.

DEEPEST SYMPATHIES

The Club extends its sympathies to the family of Kathleen McAuliffe who passed away recently. Kathleen’s grandchildren Amy, Roisin, Laura and Cillian are all active juvenile members while son in law Ted Healy is one of our foremost members and officers in the club.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

The club will be holding its annual church gate collection next weekend (Easter weekend). This collection is an important fundraiser for all club activities and volunteers are required to help with the collection. If you can give just one hour as an attendant at the collection points on Saturday 8th / Sunday 9th, it would be greatly appreciated.
