Club Notes 20th March 2022

SAINTS PATRICKS DAY

What the Club definitely doesn’t lack when it comes to the St Patrick’s Day parade is an abundance of imagination and effort. And this year was no different. The display and turnout of green and white on our Patron Saints Day was once again uplifting and the Club owes a huge debt of gratitude to the team behind the effort. Patricia and her little team of wonders at Scallywags Playschool were busy in the lead up with their brilliant art work while Sharon O Grady, Orla Culloty, Desiree Crowley, Linda O Donoghue did sterling work. Ted Healy and Liam O’Toole made loveable chipmunks while Timmy O’Donoghue and wife Bernadette are never found wanting when it comes to effort. Well done all!!

HOGAN CUP FINAL

rHard luck to St Brendans College who just fell short to Naas CBS in an epic Hogan Cup Final encounter played in Croke Park on St Patrick’s Day. The Kildare school led for the majority of the game by varying margins but the manner in which the Sem fought back in the second half meant there was only a point between the sides heading down the final furlong. But Naas hit an all important third goal and despite a late St Brendans response they went down by a two point margin, 3-14 to 2-15. Aaron O’Sullivan was an ever solid presence between the posts, Darragh Fleming had a fine game at wing back but it would be remiss not to mention the performance of Will Shine. He tormented the Naas defence , slotting 1-5 in the process and his goal would stand alongside any goal ever scored in the GAA HQ. Young Sam Benson was also in the panel and he will have gained huge experience from his involvement.

U17 BOYS

Our U17 Boys were quick out of the traps in the first half of their County League tie against Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane as they led 2-6 to 2-3, thanks to some fine scoring from Liam Cronin, Oisin Fleming ,Jason  O Sullivan and Alex O Callaghan. But the more physical and stronger Mid Kerry combination with the aid of a stiff breeze drove on in the second half to win by 5-10 to 3-6. The lads are now away to Duagh this Saturday March 26th. Best of luck lads.

CLUBPERSON OF THE YEAR

Our Awards Night takes place this Friday March 25th in the Killarney Avenue Hotel and we have unveiled our main recipients in the last few weeks. Our Clubperson of the Year is also a deserving winner.  Tom Griffin has been Club Registrar since 2014 and in his time in the position he advanced the role ,overseeing a big change in how membership was collected and data gathered. With the transition from an almost manual  to a new computerised system Tom oversaw huge changes in the functions of the office but he did so in his usual calm and affable manner.  With new guidance on how information is shared Tom was a most conscientious and responsible officer and was often seen as a guiding light and sound presence in the Club Executive. Humble by nature he may underplay the impact he had on the club but every one would be fully aware of it. Congrats Tom!!

LOTTO

We had a winner in our latest Lotto draw made on Sunday March 20th. Annette Hickey originally from Edenderry Co.Offaly, and wife of Conor McNiece successfully matched 6,14,17,21 to carry the €3,400 Jackpot.
Congrats to Annette.
