MINOR BOYS

A late surge saw our U17 Boys eventually get the better of Fossa under the Monday night Direen lights. This East Kerry Division 3 semi final saw the home team start the better, leading 1-3 to 0-4 at the end of the opening quarter. It was then Fossas turn to dominate as they limited the Legion attack to just two points for the remainder of the half and they hit productive 1-5 themselves to leave the score at 1-9 to 1-6 at half time. The second half started as the first half finished with Fossa in control as they now lead by 1-12 to 1-8 with fifteen minutes remaining. The final quarter was a score fest though as Legion ran in three goals to brush aside a gallant Fossa. Final score Killarney 4-10 Fossa 1-15. They now play Firies in the final this Saturday October 29th at 3pm with the venue to be confirmed at time of writing.

SATURDAY MORNING ACADEMY

Our Academy wound up for the year last Saturday in spring-like conditions. It also marked the end of the road for some of our older age groups who now graduate further up the Juvenile ranks. We welcomed our neighbours Dr Crokes to Direen and some enjoyable games took place. The biggest cheer of the morning was reserved  for the arrival of the ice cream truck and that particular treat went down very well. Many thanks to all the coaches who helped out during the year and we’ll see ye all again in 2023.

U14 GIRLS

Our U14 Girls had a very busy year that only finished last Monday night with the visit of Currow to Direen for the  East Kerry Division 4 Final. After a day of heavy rain the pitch was still in tip top shape and the match didn’t disappoint either . However it was Currow who came on top at the end on an 8-5 to 6-9 scoreline. As a reward for all their hard work the girls packed off to Bowling Buddies on Friday for a night of entertainment and even some of the bigger kids(coaches) enjoyed their night.

REELING IN THE INTERMEDIATE YEARS

With our Intermediate Club semi final only a little over a week away we take a look back at our last win in that Championship in 2005. Austin Stack Park was the venue and Finuge, powered by Paul Galvin,Eamonn Breen and Eamon Fitzmaurice were the opposition. The North Kerry side were All Ireland Junior Club Champions and were looking to make the breakthrough to Senior at the first time of asking. Kerry minor David Murphy was the big difference between the sides, he accounted for six points but it was the determination of Derek Pyne, Eoin OCarroll, Michael O Sullivan and Sean Hegarty that also drove the team home. The display of goalkeeper Peter O Leary, reported the Irish Examiner, “denied Finuge victory with a number of marvellous saves, including a game saving one at the death to deny Cillian Fitzmaurice”. ( He’s still talking about it today). The final score was Killarney Legion 0-8 Finuge 0-6. The victorious panel included  Kevin Breen, Enda Murphy, David Murphy,Derek Pyne, Kieran O Neill, Peter O Leary, Ciaran O Grady, David O Neill, John McGillycuddy, John Bowler(Capt), Mike O Mahony, Liam Austin, Brian Doolan, Richie O Brien, Sean Hegarty, Michael O’Donoghue, John Cronin, Michael O Sullivan, Seanie Culloty, Justin Healy, Adam Moynihan, Anthony O Leary, Gene McCarthy, Eoin Carroll..Management team  William DF O Sullivan(Manager) Kevin Carroll(Selector) Thomas Lyne(Selector).
