JUVENILE BOYS UPDATE

The Go Games continued this week for our younger age set. The U9s welcomed Austin Stacks to Direen on Saturday morning while the U11s travelled to Keel on Thursday evening last. These games give an opportunity for each boy to play in small-sided games where the emphasis is on enjoyment whilst still giving them the foundation for games at a later age.

Our U13 Boys had a busy week starting off last Wednesday when they entertained a strong John Mitchels side in Direen. In a real tight affair the boys ability to strike for goals at the most opportune time was the key difference as they saw off a gallant effort from the Tralee side.On Sunday they took the short trip to Spa and again put in a great hour’s performance against a very game Spa side. The first half was a ding-dong affair but a lucky goal at the start of the second half gave the lads all the cushion they needed to push on for victory. With both Green and White teams on top of their respective divisions the final round games to Dr Crokes will see how phase 1 of the competition teases out.

The U15s had a hectic week also with the White team out twice. They were desperately unlucky to succumb to a last minute goal to Kilcummin on Monday nightbut got the disappointment out of the system on Thursday with a resounding win over Keel/Listry. The Green team were made to fight all the way by the same opposition, Keel/Listry , on Wednesday but their ability to kick points at the right time saw them through. Both teams are now nicely placed in second as they head to Austin Stacks for the final round of games. Players involved across both panels this week included..

Joshua Alade, Darragh O’Connor, Fionn O Donoghue Sheehan, Adam O’Neill, Kevin Looney, Tom Purcell, Joseph Hurley Lyne, Sean Pierce, Max Coyne, Eli Anderson, Mark Looney, Evan Cox, Killian Callaghan, Dara McCarthy, David Courtney, Eoghan Prendergast, Finan Blackwell, Bryan O’Connor, Cian Scannell, Cillian Murphy, Luke Courtney, Aindí O’ Cathasaigh, Bryan Walsh, Ronan Fahey,  Eoin Murphy, Brian O Shea, Oisin Fleming, Leon Bowler, Declan Grimes, Ewan McCrohan.

LADIES UPDATE

The U12 team made the short trip to Glenflesk last Wednesday evening . Fielding a young panel, with 14 of them underage again next year, they settled into the game nicely and led a tight first half by a point , 2-2 to 2-1. At the three quarter stage only a point seperated the sides still but a strong finish by the girls won the day on a 5-8 to 4-3 scoreline. Well done to the team and management.
Playing on the night were Madison Angland, Aitana Junquera Bowler, Claire Lyne, Lynn Moore, Tiffany O Brien, Lillian Slattery, Aine Clayton, Leah Heinemann, Mary Pierce, Leah Mannix,  Frankie Treacy, Aoibhinn Heinemann, Bebhinn O Donoghue, Raegan Browne,Croi Carroll O Connor, Sophie O Shea, Marie Claire Van Vrede, Sarah Spellman, Esme O Sullivan.

The U14 White team had qualified for the quarter finals of their division and headed to Brosna to play Brosna/Knocknagoshel who had topped the division. They found the going tough against their North Kerry opponents but kept going to the very end. Although not successful this team was made of players who are all eligible for the grade again next year so the experience should stand to them.

The Senior Ladies had a big Derby in the Donal Curtin Cup Division 2 when they faced Dr Crokes at Lewis Road on Sunday. Fielding a lighter and smaller side the loss to injury of Zena Shine in the first half unsettled them slightly and they trailed at half time. They performed much better in the second half and a Ciara Randles goal and some nice scores by Andrea Murphy, Caelyn O Grady and Ann Marie O Sullivan saw the full time score read 5-6 to 1-7 in favour of Dr Crokes. We wish Zena a speedy recovery from that injury.
