Senior County League Round 4 Report

The Senior Men grabbed their first and vital two points in this year’s County League with a solid and comfortable win over Kenmare in Fr Breen Park this afternoon. The opening score came from the throw-in as Padriag Lucey gained possession and after a prolonged and sustained period of passing it made its way to the lively Thomas Moriarty and he sent a rocket to the back of the Kenmare net. The same player added a point and this was followed up by another point from Luke O Donoghue.

Having dominated the opening period and keeping Kenmare scoreless in the process that five point gap was upheld all the way to half time thanks to a Jamie O Sullivan free and two fine points from play by first half substitute Ryan O’Grady.
Half time score Killarney Legion 1-5 Kenmare Shamrocks 0-3.
Danny Sheahan, lining out at centre back, stole up field to land the opening score of the second half and this was quickly followed up by a Cian Gammell point. Prompted by the outstanding Padraig Lucey , Legion rubber stamped their dominance over the hosts when Jamie O’Sullivan goaled following a turnover.
Kenmare then introduced veteran Paul O Connor in an attempt to put a dent in a well organised and stubborn Legion defence and he was to have a big impact on proceedings notching up 1-2 in the closing moments but another point from the impressive Thomas Moriarty had the seal put on a maiden victory for the Legion. The game was also noteworthy for the return of Peter McCarthy from a nine month injury enforced absence.
