SENIOR MEN

Ballymacelligott joined us at the top of the Division 1 table by virtue of a Sunday afternoon win over Milltown/ Castlemaine. Having lost their opening two fixtures they have now won six on the trot, earning twelve points. Five wins and two draws from seven games sees Peter Keane’s charges neck and neck with Ballymac, albeit having played one game less.  Dr Crokes are in the slipstream on eleven points and for now it seems to be between the top three. Our latest win , on a summer Friday night in Direen, was over Kilcummin who we will again meet in the Intermediate Championship. Our neighbours were shy a few regulars but nevertheless made it a difficult hour’s work.  Points from Ryan O Grady(4) , Podge O’Connor, Eoghan O Sullivan, Finbarr Murphy and Brian Kelly(45) had us in charge at 0-9 to 0-4 but Kilcummin stole in for a goal and it took another point from Podge O’Connor to steady the ship. Kilcummin had the better of the second half for some periods and indeed closed the gap to one point by the 47th minute, 0-13 to 1-9. But cousins Peter McCarthy and Ryan O’Grady combined for a further three points to see out the win on a 0-16 to 1-9.
Team.. Brian Kelly(0-1), Rob Leen, Danny Sheahan, Podge O’Connor(0-2), Jonathan Lyne, Darragh O Doherty, Darragh Fleming, Padraig Lucey, Cian Gammell, Eoghan O Sullivan(0-1), Peter McCarthy(0-1), Finbarr Murphy(0-1), Ryan O Grady(0-8), James O’Donoghue(0-1), Will Shine(0-1).

SENIOR LADIES

Our Senior Ladies took part in the Spa 7s over the weekend eventually  losing out narrowly at the quarter-final stage to the eventual winners Castlehaven. A festival weekend of football, well done to all in Spa GAA for organising a great event.

JUVENILE BOYS

A County Final beckons for our U13 Boys team as they overcame Firies in an epic semi final played at the Farranfore venue.
Shorn of three players, they produced a heroic performance on a sultry Sunday evening to egde out the hosts and to qualify for the Div 1 County League final. The teams were level after normal time and extra time before Legion prevailed 3-1 after a free kick shootout. Numerous times during the game, the boys came back from deficits showing a ferocious determination and a will not to be beaten. We will meet an outstanding John Mitchels team in the final  in what promises to be a great game.
Div 1 County League Semi Final Result
Firies 3-17 Killarney Legion 4-14
Killarney Legion wins 3-1 on free kicks.
A big thanks to all our supporters at the game and also to Evan Horan who did a great job officiating the game.

Legion and Fossa served up a classic played in very warm conditions in  the latest round of the Division 3 East Kerry League . Legion started fast and raced into a 3 point lead. Fossa started to get a grip on the game as the half worn on, and they lead 1-7 to 2-3 at half time. The second half was similarly tight, with some fine scores being taken on both sides. Legion held a 2 point advantage entering the final five minutes of the game. Fossa pounced for a late goal and a point to seal the victory. Fair play to both sets of players for serving up an entertaining game in tough conditions and to the referee John Purcell for a great match.
The Division 1 game between ourselves and Kilcummin, played on Monday May 29th ended up in victory for the home side Kilcummin. In what is a feature of a lot of our games there was exceptionally high scoring with 2-15 not enough to get the better of the hosts, who kicked 5-14.

JUVENILE LADIES

In ideal conditions for football in Farranfore, the Legion U12 Green team took on Firies. After an even first quarter, the Legion girls settled down, and from then until the final whistle, the result was never much in doubt. It was a fulfilling win  and great to see everyone heading home with smiles on their faces. The coaches are no doubt very proud of what was delivered on the pitch, and the girls should take satisfaction that some of their hard work in the training sessions is showing through.

STATE EXAMINATIONS

We would like to wish everyone the very best of luck in the exams which kick off this week, Wednesday June 7th.
