JUVENILE BOYS

The U17 Boys maintained their winning run in the East Kerry Minor League with a seven point win over Fossa. Leading by three points at half time, 0-06 to 0-03, five of the forwards had got on the scoresheet. Eoghan Crowley(2), Alex O Callaghan, Eanna Kearney,  Daire Murphy and Liam Cronin had all made their mark in a tricky cross wind.

Alex O Callaghan,  Eoghan Crowley and Oisin Flemig made it a six point game, 0-09 to 0-03, before Fossa made a strong comeback , cutting it back to a two point game, 0-10 to 0-08.
Tom Benson then cut through the Fossa defence to unleash a thunderbolt to the net to give Legion a bit of breathing space. But it still took some outstanding goalkeeping by Aindi O Cathasaigh to keep Fossa at bay before Oisin Fleming applied the finishing touch to the game with a well taken goal.

LADIES UPDATE

The U12 Girls were at home last Wednesday evening in Round 4 of the County League when they faced Rathmore. After winning the toss and deciding to play with the breeze all didn’t go according to plan as they found themselves one point behind at half time. Playing with great gusto in the second period they kicked on and scored 2-5 to run out 3-7 to 1-3victors.

The U14 White team started their County League campaign on Thursday evening at a slippery Direen where Ballymacelligott were the visitors. Starting quicker than the home team Ballymac struck for two early goals and they proved to be the difference throughout despite the best efforts of the Legion girls. They hit the road  on Sunday when they visited JP O Sullivan Park to face Laune Rangers. Determined to bounce back from the Ballymac defeat they quickly got down to work and led 0-6 to 0-3 at half time. The Rangers made a quick start to the second half cutting the gap to a point, but a trio of goals from the girls settled the issue in Legion favour on the scoreline of 3-8 to 1-6. Listowel Emmets visit Direen in the next round.

SENIOR MENS UPDATE

The defining moments of this game were condensed into a five minute spell early in the second half when the home side took full advantage of the cards they were dealt to eventually run out  winners . The dismissal of Denis Sheahan was a decisive moment when the fat was still in the fire with Dr Crokes leading by one point, 0-9 to 0-8. Having settled in the aftermath of the red card the main turning point was about to come. Peter O Sullivan cut through the Crokes like a knife through but his effort at goal was saved by goalkeeper Shane Murphy and almost instantly the ball was transferred to the other end of the field where Crokes corner forward Mikey Casey hit a rocket past Brian Kelly in a pivotal six point swing moment. That would prove to be the difference right till the end but to Legion’s eternal credit they never gave up the ghost and through two fine points by Thomas Moriarty and a Brian Kelly 45 they kept the home side honest to the final whistle. Full time Dr Crokes 1-14 Killarney Legion 0-11

Next up on Sunday June 12th at 2pm in Round 9 of the County League is the visit of Rathmore to Direen. Throw in 2pm.
The Senior B game against Na Gaeil did not go ahead and it is hoped that game will be played in the coming weeks. The team are in action again on Sunday June 26th with the visit of Dingle B to Direen.

DEEPEST SYMPATHIES

The Club extends its sympathies to the family of Sean Coyne who passed away during the week. His son in law Donal Culloty currently manages the Boys Under 15 team of which Grandsons Brian O Shea and Max Coyne are integral members while granddaughter Emily O Shea lines out for the Girls U14 Team. The family has a strong connection with the Club and the International Hotel is amongst our most generous sponsors for many years. May he Rest in Peace.
