LADIES UPDATE
The U10 Girls welcomed Spa to Direen last Thursday evening in the latest offering of Go Games. On a perfect evening the 24 girls got plenty of game time in and it was obvious that both their skills and enjoyment levels are improving. Well done to both girls and coaches.
Our U12 Girls made the trip to Churchill last Wednesday evening. Having been placed in a higher grade they are now facing stronger opposition but they more than held their own for the majority of the game before eventually succumbing to a stronger home side.
The U14 County League , including County players, commenced on Sunday eveningwhere our Green team had a very impressive win over Brosna/ Knocknagoshel. A very productive second quarter laid the foundations for the win and not even the sunshine in the north Kerry village could outshine the second half performance as they ran out 4-17 to 0-7 winners. Next up is a home game vs Kilcummin.
Having already qualified for the County semi final the final round of the U16 County League was played last Thursday evening in Direen with the visit of our neighbours Dr Crokes. A blitz in the first half by the visitors saw them lead at half time but a much improved second half showing was not enough to prevent a Dr Crokes win on a 4-10 to 4-6 scoreline. The League now takes a break to allow for the Junior Cert Examinations and we wish everyone well in their efforts. The semi final will be played in late June.
The Minor Girls have also qualified for the County Semi Final where they will face Kilcummin. This game is fixed for Friday July 1st, again to facilitate the State Examinations.
Hard luck to Keri Ann Hanrahan, Elizabeth Mohan and the Kerry Ladies who went down fighting to the Cork Ladies in an entertaining Munster Final played as a curtain raiser to the men’s equivalent. Their interest in the All Ireland series though is still very much alive when they enter the round robin phase of the competition with an opening tie against Galway.
SENIOR MEN UPDATE
No games this past weekend but this coming weekend sees a Killarney Derby as we travel to Lewis Road to take on Dr Crokes in Round 8 of the County League. They will be looking to maintain their recent good form and push themselves up into the top half of the table. Throw in on Sunday June 5th is 2pm.
The Senior B Men’s enter into phase 2 of the Division 6 County League starting with a home tie in Direen this Sunday June 5thagainst Na Gaeil at 2pm. In the following weeks they will also face Dingle and Beaufort.
JUVENILE BOYS
The U15 Boys can take strong consolation from the fine showing by Austin Stacks in winning the U15 County League with victory over Kenmare last Thursday in Direen. The record books will show that they gave the Rockies by far their most difficult game, scoring more than anyone else and conceding the least of any team against the Tralee side.
The U17 Boys continued their good form in the East Kerry League when they faced Beaufort in Direen last Monday evening. A strong showing by the returning Stephen Walsh, Eoghan Crowley , Tom Benson , good goalkeeping by Aindi O Cathasaigh and fine point taking by Bryn O’Flaherty were the main takeaways from the 3-15 to 1-6 win. On Monday May 30th they face Fossa as they look to keep up their unbeaten run.
