Club Notes Week Ending 5th March 2017

JIGSAW (PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT/WELLBEING SERVICE)

The club was delighted to host a meeting on the availability of the Jigsaw Kerry confidential mental health support service to young people from the ages 12 – 25 years.Easy to access it has become a valuable and relevant service that is Kerry based and user friendly. It is free to those who wish to use it and is based in Tralee with the voluntary staff coming from a variety of disciplines such as social work, psychology, mental health nursing and occupational therapy. They also operate out of Killarney one day a week.

Contact can be made via phone or email and if the service is found to be beneficial the client can attend for a total of six sessions. As it is a voluntary agency the user has the right to stop at any time or change focus to whatever they deem a more pressing or important issue.

Jigsaw stress however that they are not a crisis service and in these cases they advise people to attend their G.P.also those under 18 will have to have consent of a parent or legal guardian before attending. The club will distribute information leaflets to all in the coming weeks.

The meeting was certainly an eye opener and credit to those involved who make such services available to the youth of our county.
