Intermediate Championship Round 2 Match Report

Killarney Legion 2-18 Dromid Pearses 0-7

Our Senior Men made it 2 from 2 in the group stages of the Intermediate Club Championship with a more comfortable than expected win over Dromid Pearses on a humid afternoon in South Kerry. Displaying a hunger from the start they set about the task with gusto, especially in the first half and any thoughts Dromid had of a much needed win were dispelled quickly. With a comfortable half time lead the bench was utilised in the second half and  it offered everyone a chance to show their wares ahead of the final group game against John Mitchels in Direen next weekend.

James O Donoghue ,restored to the starting 15, hit three early points to offset an opening Niall O Se score while cousins Peter McCarthy and Ryan O’Grady got in on the act to make 0-5 to 0-2 after 10 minutes. Cian Gammell, lining out at wing back, looked sharp and strong throughout and he galloped forward like a stallion to kick a great score off the outside of the boot and when referee Jonathan Griffin called for a water break Jameso and Sam Benson had tacked on further points. Straight after the sos uisce Will Shine had a goal ruled out for square ball before Cathal Sheahan did a “Cian Gammell ”  with his left from the other wing. Sam Benson. playing well, notched another but the rest of the half belonged to Ryan O Grady as he plundered 1-2 to see the half time score at 1-12 to 0-3, Niall O Se being Dromids sole scorer.
The changes were rang at the interval with Conor Keane and Luke O’Donoghue replacing Jameso and Denis Sheahan but normal service was maintained as Will Shine popped over a point and Ryan O’Grady got behind the Dromid defence once again to roll home another goal. Thomas Moriarty and Finbarr Murphy replaced the hard working Shaun Keane and Peter McCarthy and understandably the game lost a bit of rhythm. Brian Kelly nailed a long free, the towering and once again impressive Padraig Lucey fisted one over while the last words were left to Will Shine as he split the posts twice more. A hard day in the office for Dromid but they were always willing and led by county man Graham O’Sullivan they strove on and added four points to their total.
