U16 girls see off Scart

Co.League Rd.4
Killarney Legion 1-13 Kerins O Rahillys 2-9
Just a point in it at the end but none the less a welcome and merited win by the seniors.Having built up a good 6 pt.lead going into the second half it looked likely that they would maintain their buffer to the end but a spirited fight back by the Tralee side made the contest a close one coming down the straight.Undoubtedly the huge effort put in by the Legion to that point told on the energy levels and for periods the Legion forwards went without regular possession for long spells – a pity because they showed that they had the ability to create and the fact that nine different players got on the scoresheet illustrates the work put in on the training pitch the past few weeks.Damien O Sullivan repositioned at fullback was as sound as one could ask for and as usual Cian Gammell and Chris Davies were to the fore. The containment of Tommy Walshe by Danny Sheahan -a job he’s done before – was a huge contributory factor to the win.Peter McCarthy popped up just at the right time to finish off a good move and despite having a bit to do kept his cool to finish smartly to the net.Level with time ticking away Jonathan Lyne burst forward and from an acute angle popped over a beauty, however Strand Rd.responded immediately to tie up matters going into injury time,if you’re going to win a close match that’s the time to do it and the best Legion move of the game showing patience and determination eventually freed up Jamie O Sullivan who duly shot over to take the points. An added bonus for the homeside was the performance in goal of Colm Ó Cuiv who was excellent throughout consistently hitting teammates with his kickouts and clearances.
GIRLS U16
Killarney Legion 5-11 Scartaglin 2-8
A comfortable winning margin belies the fact that the u16 girls had to overcome a sluggish start that saw them trail early on by 5pts.Gradually hauling themselves back into contention they got  a grip at midfield and allied to a tighter more composed defence they eventually got the better of a lively Scartaglin side.
