Weekly Notes: ÓÍCHE CEILIÚRADH

ÓÍCHE CEILIÚRADH

The Ladies club held their Juvenile Awards Night in the Dromhall Hotel on Sunday and had many reasons to celebrate a hugely successful year.Ladies Chairman Dave Randles thanked all those in attendance for supporting the girls during the year and extended an open invitation to any and all that would like to get involved in any aspect of the club.

The celebration centred on the medal presentations to our 3 teams. The U12 girls made great strides during the year thanks to the great work and time put in by coaches Selina Looney and Hannah Devlin. They reached the East Kerry Shield Final but found Milltown /Listry that little bit better but this does not diminish the great progress they’ve made this past year.
The U14 girls had a busy year. They competed in Feile to great effect and again reached an East Kerry Final.Displaying great skill and courage they emerged victorious, again special thanks to Shaun O Connor, Mike Doody, Maria Hanrahan and Orla Culloty who kept the girls on the go in what was a lively year. The U16s saved their best ’til last when defeating Spa in the East Kerry Division 2 in Spa.They showed great resilience to come back from a slow start and win with a bit to spare in the end.A busy year for these girls with some U14s lining out for them and some of the girls graduating to the Senior team during the year.John Doona and Susanne Smith found plenty time to coach both the U16 and Senior girls during the year and must have great satisfaction from the year.
Individual Awards..U12 girls Lorna Looney, U14 girls Tara Murphy, U16 girls Ellen Coffey.
The contribution of trojan worker Desiree Crowley was also acknowledged as was the appointment of John Doona as Kerry U14 ladies team manager – both thoroughly deserved.

A very enjoyable event which showed the ladies in the best possible light and highlighted what is without doubt one of the most vibrant parts of the club.

BEST WISHES
The very best of luck to Kerry and Rathmore star Aidan O Mahoney who announced his retirement from intercounty football.Much admired he was more than generous and obliging at a function run by the Legion some time ago.The problem now is that with extra time for his club the much sought after O Donoghue Cup will be that bit more difficult for the rest of us in East Kerry.A hard act to follow in the Kerry jersey.
