Direen will be the venue for the quarter final of the Aquila Club Dr O’Donoghue Cup when Kilcummin will be the visitors this Saturday November 19th with a 2pmthrow-in. With the East Kerry board clubs flying high at county level this year’s competition promises to be ultra competitive with a full round of games the weekend coming. Rathmore and Spa will clash in Rathbeg on Saturday(7pm) also as will Dr Crokes and Fossa in Lewis Road at 2pm. On Sunday  Currow and Listry face off as do Gneeveguilla and Firies.

The Ladies department of the Club will hold their AGM this Friday November 18thwith a full review of all happenings to take place. Chairperson Ted Healy will remain at the helm in 2023 but if you would like to help out in any way your attendance in the clubhouse on Friday at 7pm would be much appreciated.

The Main Club AGM is pencilled in for Friday November 25th with an edited starting time of 7.30. With all Club officers signalling their intention to remain in situ for 2023 a reminder that Friday November 18th is the close of date for any motions or nominations you wish to bring to the table. You can contact Secretary Lara at with the same.

Our lads finished off their year on a slightly disappointing note when they visited Kenmare for the East Kerry Division 1 semi final. The first half was an even enough affair with the hosts ahead by two points, 2-8 to 3-3. Unfortunately the second half didn’t go to plan as Kenmare grew stronger to qualify for the final where they will meet Dr Crokes. The lads competed in Division 1 in both County and District and will no doubt have learned a lot from the experience. The Club will strive to help them develop further as they progress through the ranks. Big thanks to the management team of Donal Culloty, John Keane, Nigel Shevlin and Donal Hegarty for their years work. Full time Score Killarney Legion 3-3 Kenmare 4-10.

Congratulations to Kate Fleming, Sophie Duke and Ali Bowler  who were all part of the East Kerry U13 side that captured the County District Championship title last Sunday, aptly in Direen. They defeated Mid Kerry on a 6-12 to 4-8 scoreline and included in the management team was Fergal Moynihan. Well done all!!

With the season almost at a close we would like to thank all our management teams in 2022 for the work they have done. The Club is now looking ahead to 2023 and we are inviting anyone who would like to get involved with any of our teams to come forward. You can be a manager, a coach , a selector or someone who can help organise the team, send out texts, liasing with parents, look after the team jerseys and gear or keep attendance at training and games. If you would like to help in any of our Juvenile boys teams or our Ladies teams upto and including senior you can contact Donal O Leary(Boys) 0868528768, Ted Healy(Ladies)0876678315 or email the club at
Or you can contact any club member who will point you in the right direction

Thanks to everyone who attended our Club Mass last Friday night nicely celebrated by Fr Jim Linehan. Special thanks to Sharon O Grady, Orla Culloty, Desiree Crowley for organising the room for the occasion and with the aid of their helpers Leah O Grady and Orianne McGillycuddy for the teas, coffees and sumptuous confectionery on offer.

The Club Executive has discussed the matter of appointing  a Club Coaching officer and it has been proposed that a sub committee be established to take up the running of engaging, researching and ultimately bringing forward someone with the purpose of selecting them for the role. More on this anon.
