SENIOR MENS UPDATE

Our Senior Men continued their recent unbeaten run in the County Senior League Division 1 when they fought out a hard earned draw over a defensively obdurate Dingle side in Direen. While the scoring may have been low , the physicality and closeness of the exchanges, especially around the middle where Padraig Lucey was a powerhouse, meant the result was always in doubt and that in itself led to an exciting finale. In the final analysis you could argue that the home side had the better chances to snatch the points but that was only because of the honesty of the display and their own defensive performance which was excellent in that it was both individual and collective. As long as that platform is present the seeds of a good performance will be there.

A low scoring first half saw Dingle lead 0-4 to 0-2 at half time, Legions scores coming courtesy of a James O Donoghue and Jamie O Sullivan free. Dingle led through two Conor Geaney frees, a 50 from goalkeeper Gavin Curran and a score from play from Niall Geaney.
Barra O Sullivan nudged Dingle three clear early in the second half before two Jamie O Sullivan scores (a free and a mark) cut the gap to one but again Conor Geaney (who was well marshalled by Cathal Sheahan throughout) put them two up. James O Donoghue from play cut the gap to one again and sub Luke O’Donoghue kicked a fine score to level the game. The rare moment that Dingle penetrated the excellent Legion defence Conor Geaney rounded Brian Kelly and looked odds on to score but Rob Leen scrambled back to pull off a brilliant goal line clearance. Dylan Geaney and James O Donoghue exchanged points in a feisty final quarter and Dingle sub Padraig Sheehy put the West Kerry side up one again. But the influential Jameso added the last point of the game to secure a point for the hosts.Full time Killarney Legion 0-8 Dingle 0-8.

The Senior B Team made the trip to Fossa on Sunday . In a low scoring first half Fossa led 0-4 to 0-3 at half time with Stephen Flattery (0-2) and Cian Sheahan on the mark. Fossa had the better of the second half but not withstanding the performance of Stephen Flattery who accounted for six of Legions total of nine. Full time.. Fossa 0-14 Killarney Legion 0-9.

JUVENILE BOYS UPDATE

The initial phase of the U11 Go Games came to a close this week when we welcomed Churchill to Direen . The usual determination and skills were on show and special thanks to Ryan Twomey and John Keane who took the whistle for the two games .
There were mixed fortunes for our U13 boys teams on Sunday night. Our Green Team had a real ding dong struggle with Austin Stacks with the lead exchanging hands regularly throughout the game. With the scores level at 1-5 a piece at half time  the Rockies had marginally the better of the second half to win by 2 points, 2-10 to 2-8.
The White team picked up from where they left off in phase 1 when they outscored a gallant St Pats Team.

LADIES UPDATE

The Senior Ladies were in Milltown Sunday morning where they faced MKL Gaels in the latest round of the Donal Curtin Cup.With the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half they led 0-8 to 1-2 at half time despite the disadvantage of being a player down for 10 minutes due to a sin binning. This was thanks to the accuracy of  Ciara Randles, Ann Marie O Sullivan, Andrea Murphy and Chloe Hue. Playing against the elements in the second half every score was precious, none more than an Aine Devlin goal while Ciara Randles and Chloe Hue added to their totals. MKL battled hard to close the gap but the defensive team work of the Legion Ladies won out in the end. Full Time Killarney Legion 1-13 MKL Gaels 2-8.
