Senior County Football League Round 7 Report

KILLARNEY LEGION 0-8 DINGLE 0-8

Our Senior Men continued their recent unbeaten run in the County Senior League Division 1 when they fought out a hard earned draw over a defensively obdurate Dingle side in Direen. While the scoring may have been low , the physicality and closeness of the exchanges, especially around the middle where Padraig Lucey was a powerhouse, meant the result was always in doubt and that in itself led to an exciting finale. In the final analysis you could argue that the home side had the better chances to snatch the points but that was only because of the honesty of the display and their own defensive performance which was excellent in that it was both individual and collective. As long as that platform is present the seeds of a good performance will be there.
A low scoring first half saw Dingle lead 0-4 to 0-2 at half time, Legions scores coming courtesy of a James O Donoghue and Jamie O Sullivan free. Dingle led through two Conor Geaney frees, a 50 from goalkeeper Gavin Curran and a score from play from Niall Geaney.
Barra O Sullivan nudged Dingle three clear early in the second half before two Jamie O Sullivan scores (a free and a mark) cut the gap to one but again Conor Geaney (who was well marshalled by Cathal Sheahan throughout) put them two up. James O Donoghue from play cut the gap to one again and sub Luke O’Donoghue kicked a fine score to level the game. The rare moment that Dingle penetrated the excellent Legion defence Conor Geaney rounded Brian Kelly and looked odds on to score but Rob Leen scrambled back to pull off a brilliant goal line clearance. Dylan Geaney and James O Donoghue exchanged points in a feisty final quarter and Dingle sub Padraig Sheehy put the West Kerry side up one again. But the influential Jameso added the last point of the game to secure a point for the hosts.
