U16 girls pick up second title

The U16 girls picked up their 2nd title of the year with a late surge to deny Laune Rangers a win in this East Kerry Division 2 Final.
It all looked so different at half time as Laune Rangers put in a strong first half show yielding 2 goals and some fine point kicking giving them a comfortable half time cushion.
Legion however kept plugging away and managed the second half much better limiting Laune Rangers to just 2 points while also keeping the scoreboard ticking over. That said with the game entering the last minute we still trailed 2-6 to 0-10.Step forward Clodagh Sheehan who danced past her marker to send an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.Ciara Randles, who had quite a tussle with the Laune Rangers centre back throughout added the insurance point with the final score reading 2-6 to 1-10.Joy for the Legion but tough luck on a game Killorglin outfit.
Kate Mc Carthy,Legion captain, accepted the shield from a delighted East Kerry Ladies board Chairman  Dave Randles.
Speaking after the game manager Mike Doody was delighted with the years effort.”I take this opportunity to thank the girls for all their effort this year and for acting and behaving as true role models. They have worked to set the bar very high for future  years by their success both at County and East Kerry. “
Great credit is also due to Mike and his management team of  Paudie Breen,Shaun O Connor,Orla Culloty,Maria Hanrahan and Catherine Lyne who put in a huge effort themselves this year with the girls.Always nice to have hard work rewarded.

Kilcummin were the visitors to Direen for this clash of East Kerry League Champions 1 and 2.In a tight first first half we held the advantage by 8 points to 3.The second half opened up as William Shine and Ethan O Neill struck for majors and despite a late Kilcummin revival the hard work was done as the lads ran our winners on a 2-17 to 3-9 scoreline. We now meet the winners of the Firies vs Cokes semi final in the Division 1 Championship Final as the hard work put in by both management and panel continues to yield progress. A tough decider is in prospect so the lads will have to be on their mettle in the seasons finale.
The best of luck to St Pauls who have re-entered the National League again after an absence of 9 years under the banner of Scotts Lakers. They have benefited also from the return home from Australia of Padraig Lucey after a 4 year spell playing Aussie Rules Football.Padraig ,it goes without saying,is also a massive edition back into our senior squad and we also wish him the best of luck with his studies in UCC.Another little link to Scotts Lakers is Irish American Justin Tuason.Justin has a number of close relatives living in Killarney and his aunt, now living in the USA, is married to former Legion player Mike Nash (formerly of New Street).
